Here are 2 facts for you.
1. More than 40 percent of the global population is affected by water scarcity.
2. Estimated 783 million people do not have access to clean water and over 1.7 billion people are currently living in river basins where water use exceeds recharge

Do you know what that means! Almost half the world is affected by water. This means that what you take for granted everyday...some people don't have. I am not here to guilt you into not drinking water but it is important to know that not everyone can turn on a tap and fill up a glass. The reasons why people in different parts of the world (and in america) can't afford water boils down to this: Economics and Poor Infrastructure. Because of this children die of disease every day because the water they drink is contaminated. But, The UN has been trying to help! In March of 1977 the UN declared that The Right to Clean Water and Sanitation was a human right. A human right is a right that is believed to belong justifiably to every person. So the General Assembly realized they needed to help and they needed to help fast! Since then the General Assembly has made progress and saved the sum of about 1.3 billion people. Since then the UN has held conferences like The UN Nations Water Conference, International Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Decade, International Conference of Water and the Environment, and Earth Summit. In WW2 most of the US's budget was channeled in to projects like nuclear warfare and the military but now that we have entered in to a time of long peace we can use the money we have to help those in need
