Do you remember this scene from finding nemo?

At the time, you probably didn't think of it, you thought that it was just a funny scene between two pelicans. Well, let me open your mines (get it :)) and reveal to you that those explosions are from left over naval mines that were used in world war two, as Bruce says "Oh boy" *boom*! although a mere blip on the surface that many bombs going off can be lethal to marine life. The effects of a war that has happened more than 50 years ago, Is still affecting our lives today. Example: The ocean covers 72% of the whole earth and It represents freedom for a long time. During WW2 Unrestricted Submarine Warfare, started to be used and lead to dangerous times in the seas. After the war mines were left all over the pacific. With the effects of pollution becoming a greater problem the ocean doesn't represent freedom it is more like a prison. But, we are trying to fix it. The United Nations Convention of Law of the Ocean the UN is trying to restore the ocean to its former glory. UNCLO helped establish laws like:

  • Set territorial sea boundaries 12 miles offshore

  • Set exclusive economic zones up to 200 miles offshore

  • Set rules for extending continental shelf rights up to 350 miles offshore

  • Created the International Seabed Authority

We have made great strides in fixing our mistakes and are close to the ocean to being the amazing wonder that we know less then we know about the stars above. But, the scars and violence of war are still evident in our oceans and this is a burden we will have to live with for the rest of our lives. So Dory said it best ->
